I wanted to buy a new pair of backpacking/tactical boots and was very interested in the well known Asolo FSN95 GTX. I've seen many photos of SF members wearing them and also some friend have them, but because I always want to find an alternative I had a look on the Internet and found the Salomon Quest 4D GTX, some also call them Salomon Tactical Boot. I have to say I did encounter some difficulties in finding them but at the end here they are.
The boot is very well constructed and at Salomon they say this is a new generation of trail running shoe.
The fitting is super comfortable and you could keep them on your feet all day long thinking you are only wearing a pair of running shoes.. They are so comfortable even because the heel is constructed with foam and the foot-strap is Ortholite.
They are in gore-tex so waterproof.: I have tested them both in the snow and in the water. I have been standing in the snow covering them completely for only 20 minutes and 1) my feet were not cold 2) no signs of water coming in from the odd badly made seem which I have found in the past also on very expensive boots.
The sole has a very good grip also on slippery surfaces and walking on rock was just like having tea in a posh tea room in London (very comfortable). Toes and heels have a semi-hard rubber protection.
