I like fixed blades but foldable are also a must if you want something low profile to be kept in your pants pocket or in a dedicated pouch or else where.
Saying this I have always avoided buying Automatic Knives.. it has always been something I have never trusted too much, but the on S.W.A.T. magazine a read an article abt a Pro-Tech knife and decided to get myself one. I went for a TR-3 and as the manufacturers also offer a laser engraving service I decided to have mine done.. you'll see the result in the hereunder pics.
My skepticism with automatic knives has always been due to the fact that I've always been afraid of risking an accidental opening of the knife causing injury or other minor accidents.
This with Pro-Tech knives is close to impossible and I'l show you why.
1.
The opening system consists in a button on the left side of the knife quite stiff to operate but not so hard to cause difficulties in getting the blade out.
2.
The button is allined (see pic hereunder) with the rest of the structure of the knife so that even if the knife is placed down on that side there is no risk in having the button pressed. This obviously happens even if you have the knife in a back pocket of your pants (I have tested it) or in any other place in wich you wish to carry it.
As I've told you before I had my TR-3 laser engraved with my logo:
Now some technical specs (as per manufacturers website):
- Blade : 154-CM Stainless Steel, 3.5'' Long Blade, .125'' thik, 59 RC
- Handle : T6-6061 Anodized Aluminium, various colors
- Open Overall Lenght : 8.0''
- Closed : 3.6 ounces
Because of the aluminium body the knife is super light but I can assure you that you will still get a good sense of holding something strong and tough!
I love this blade and will surely buy more from Pro-Tech, the but thing abt them is that for a reasonable price you get a top quality product.
